Prime Time

Who would of thought I’d write a whole post dedicated to a primer! I’ve made no secret of the fact they are not for me. I have always said though, if you find one that works for you then go for it. In principle they should be brilliant, but most for me seem to give me foundation issues. It’s all kinds of mess that I don’t have time for.

I am about to eat my words because this little gem from REN Skincare is right up my street.

REN Perfect Canvas

What REN say ‘A perfecting serum for all skin types, designed to sit over moisturiser to smooth fine lines and prime skin for make-up’

It is silicone free. Includes probiotics to strengthen your skins barrier. Blue agave smooths the skin.

The product is a clear soft feeling liquid/serum/gel type texture.

Sadly it isn’t fragrance free. From a scent point of view it’s certainly not like you’ve dipped your face into your best fragrance. I personally don’t notice a scent but it’s listed in the ingredients. It’s worth a mention as some people can be sensitive to fragrance.

Thoughts

Ok so we already get that I love it but heres why. There is no silicone. I think this is the biggest one for me. I don’t like the texture of a heavy silicone filled product. Anything I put on top of things with silicone in seem to roll off, or cause it to peel off like you’ve sunburnt your skin.

Pores are very much blurred out, it doesn’t fill them but bit really softens the appearance. With regards to the fine lines I don’t really have them yet, thank god, so I can’t speak for them.

Your skin just looks a little bit more perfected. It has that glow from with in not oily glow and everything appears better, even on a bad skin day.

As the name suggests it does give that perfected canvas ready for your make up.

It doesn’t dramatically increase wear time but it certainly extends it. I don’t get quite as oily through out the day. It isn’t designed to prevent oil production, so do bare that in mind. I do often find giving the skin a little bit extra, rather than trying to strip away the oils, stops you turning into an oil slick. Prepped skin is often the key to good lasting foundation.

I Love it

I am very much going to be keeping this in my routine and will definitely re purchase when I run out. Let me know if you’ve tried it and what you thought in the comments.

Check out my previous post here if you missed it.
