I think a sign of a good restaurant is if you repeatedly go back. I’m such a foodie and love trying out all the different restaurants, but there are some that you just can’t help going back to because they’re that good. Here are some of our favourites..
No34 – Lewes
It’s great produce simply cooked well. It’s a foodie wine bar. We’ve never had a bad meal. The food is so delicious, the wine and drinks are great too. Bonus the decor is so cute. They do an almond tart/pie thing with seasonal fruit and quite frankly I never met one I didn’t like. Steak night is Thursdays and it’s some great steak. Oysters appear now and again. If you know me well I love a good oyster, little glass of bubbles. I will say, the menu is small. If you’re fussy it might not be for you, check ahead. It’s fairly priced and we will continue to go back. It’s not child friendly (changing table, high chairs etc are not there) but they’re always happy for us to take Bebe.
The Flint House – Brighton
Restaurants with small plates is high on my list of priorities. I love food and I’m going to want to try everything. The Flint House has a great seasonal menu with a selection of small plates. A variety of meat, fish, veggie, sides, starters and so on. A great selection of drinks. My favourite time of year is summer when you can sit out on the roof terrace with a glass of Ridgeview and all the best snacks. I’ve lost count of how many times I have been. With Husband, with Husband and Bebe, with friends. I even had by baby shower celebration there.
Ballintaggart, The Grand Tully – Perthshire, Scotland
Does this one count, it’s kind of a trip, but we go for the food so I think it counts. The snacks, the mains, the drinks, the everything. We just love it. Sitting outside with snacks and drinks is our favourite, we’ve been every year since 2019 and I can imagine we will continue for years to come. They do an incredible tasting menu too. The seafood is incredible, yes there are oysters too. You’ll be rolled home from all the food but if you died after you would die happy and incredibly well fed. We also rate Negronis from 1 to Ballintaggart. There hasn’t been a Negroni that’s ever beaten theirs. It’s the best foodie trip.
Redwood Wines – Dunkeld, Scotland
As we are including Scotland I can’t leave Redwood wines out. It’s run by a couple, Roseanna & Morgwn, and they are the loveliest people. They put on their Mexican night for us when we last visited. And my god it was good. Morgwn is a brilliant chef the food never lets you down. You get inspired to try and recreate at home. The focaccia is always on and I always have to order it. The clue is in the name, it’s a wine store with food. It’s the whole package. It’s a must visit if you’re near Dunkeld.
Java and Jazz – Forest Row
It’s not really a restaurant, it’s a casual cafe, but not a cafe. They do my favourite pizza, rattle snake Jake. They do a delicious salad the Excelso Salad. The cakes are yum, and let’s be honest we know how much I love a good cake. Nice drinks, easy and casual. Will comment that service is always interesting..
